As we walk into the new future of finance these days, with Bitcoin and other Crypto currencies, an old and IMPORTANT question
arises – How can I protect my money?
Lets be real… even thou there are so many opportunities to make money Just by sitting at home, the world taught us that scammers, hackers and other risks are everywhere.
As some of you know, trading websites were hacked in the past, and people that didn’t use Bitcoin hardware wallets lost a lot of money! If you are an opportunist as I am, it won’t stop you, but you will do whatever you can to protect your investment.
If you have a crypto currency or planning on buying one, buy a safe hardware wallet first.
How To Store Your Crypto Currencies…
There are many ways to store your Crypto currencies, every wallet can support 1 or more currencies, so before choosing a wallet make sure it supports the crypto currency you own! Most of the wallets are free:
Desktop Wallets
Web Wallets
Mobile Wallets
Paper Wallets
Hardware Wallets
Multi Signature Wallets
So WHY Bitcoin Hardware Wallets?
These wallets are semi cold which means they are mostly offline. The reason for that is to keep our Cryptocurrencies protected…
Like bank and credit card accounts, online wallets are targeted by hackers and other scammers that want to steal your money .
Keeping your wallet offline will reduce dramatically the chances of being a victim of an online theft.
The only time you will connect your hardware wallet to a network will be in order to send / receive Bitcoin to other wallets, when done your wallet is offline and secured again.
Hardware Wallets Pros And Cones:
Pros:
The most simple way to secure and store your bitcoin.
Easy to use – for users without technical background.
Cons:
Isn’t Free.
Top 4 Bitcoin Hardware Wallets For 2018:
#1 Ledger Nano S :
The Ledger Nano S is coming to us from overseas, like me, it is also French Putting aside our mutual heritage, this hardware wallet is my personal choice. Coming with great features that will ease your trade and the low price of 58.00 € (63$) make it real hard for its competition.Cool and updated design allows it to have an OLED screen to increase security of transactions. Easy to connect by USB to any computer, and supports:
Bitcoin.
Litecoin.
Ethereum.
Other Alt Coins.
I enjoyed using it for the past week, especially because it supports more currencies then any other hardware wallet. I purchased it directly from Ledger website (63$+shipping), but you can also order it online from Amazon (129.98$) or other online shopping sites.
What Other People Say About the Ledger Nano S:
“…Fantastic hardware wallet. Very easy setup and simple to use. Chrome applications work seamlessly and the ledger also works with myetherwallet.com to offer extended browser support. I’m a fan of the magnetic USB since I don’t have to re-plug the adapter each time; great add-on from Mintcell.
Anyone that is into crypto should think of owning a hardware wallet to control their assets. The Ledger is definitely one of the best you can buy….” Alex M.
#2 Trezor:
Trezor is one of the top selling Bitcoin hardware wallets in the market. There’s no doubt about its ability to safely store your Bitcoin, the setup is simple and it will run a quick check for Malware when you setup the wallet for the first time.
To transfer, just connect your Trezor to your computer using the USB chord. The first time using it you will need to setup a 4-9 pin code for your device. Cool thing about it is the numeric pad that shuffles every time you login which gives an extra security feature. After the setup just use the chrome browser extension to set up and transfer funds.
In order to protect you from hackers another security feature will pop up when sending funds. You will need to approve the transfer by clicking on its screen. Today Trezor supports a lot more currencies then in the past, Click here for currencies list.
Trezor have been around for a long time making it very trustworthy. It is my second choice just because of the price (99$). You can get the Ledger Nano S for 63$.
#3 KeepKey: One of the easiest interfaces…
to use for a Bitcoin hardware wallet. As most of Bitcoin Hardware Wallets it is easy to setup. Plug a USB chord and download the Chrome browser extension to access it. Its easy interface and cheap price (99$) make it beginners friendly and save you a lot of time and effort.
unfortunately the KeepKey Bitcoin hardware wallet doesn’t support a lot of currencies and currently supports only:
Bitcoin.
Litecoin.
Dogecoin.
Namecoin.
Testnet.
Ethereum.
Dash
What Other People Say About the KeepKey Hardware Wallet:
“…Excellent BTC HD wallet to store your bitcoins, the built in shapeshift exchange makes it alot easier to transfer to other coins that this wallet can do. Other supported coins are LTC, ETH, DOGE & DASH. To sum it up it’s the most simple wallet out there with top notch security features… Paul M.“
The KeepKey is a great choice for you if you are a beginner or trading only with the currencies above.
Cool And Vibrant Design (That’s it?)…. The Ledger Blue was a bit of a disappointed for me, I was so excited upon its arrival and immediately hooked to my laptop once I got it. Giving its size and higher pay grade you will think it will be the best Bitcoin Hardware Wallet you will ever use.
The setup is simple and easy. The Ledger blue connects to your computer via USB. Once connected press the Bitcoin logo on the screen than a software will pop up on you computer for an easy setup. you will need to setup a pin code first.
The Large touch screen that allows you to control your wallets as you please is a real eye catcher. No other company has this kind of design, and for me that was the main reason for ordering it.
I was trying to find a reason for its price rather its design and touch screen, but to be honest I couldn’t find any better features vs the Nano Ledger S.
I did notice it has some issues:
which is high frequency noise coming from the wallet, that needs to be fixed on the next firmware update.
It supports many kinds of wallets, but during the installation i got an error saying it doesn’t have enough memory space after the 8th wallet was installed. giving its size you will think it has more memory available then other wallets.
I hope that in the future Ledger will bring us something that is more worthwhile. Still its a great wallet with more features than most I just don’t see any reason to order it for almost 300$ when you can use the Ledger Nano S for almost 63$.
All 4 Bitcoin Hardware Wallets are a great , it only comes into your budget, supported currencies and design,
Before the article ends I want to emphasis the importance of having a Bitcoin hardware wallet. Two large exchange sites were hacked in the past, A lot of people lost their investments because of that. Don’t be one of them and protect yourself the best you can! and even if you are not a trader, remember that the use of Cryptocurrencies to buy milk and sugar isn’t that far away
